5 days and counting!

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Well, maybe not. But I’m nervous all the same. My Mazda3 was returned like mid-March the day after my dad flew out to spend three-ish months in Hong Kong/China, and immediately upon his return I realized just how much of a pain it is to not have my own car. And being the spoiled chinese girl that I am, I want my own car.

Tuesday night we hit up the Honda dealership (since there are no more 2009 Mazda3′s and the 2010 version looks like a big dumb emoticon, and no, I do not want to drive a big dumb emoticon) to test out the 2009 Honda Fit.

I liked it. The inside feels big and boxy while the outside doesn’t look like a toaster on wheels. The gas milage is insane for a non-hybrid car (even more so on the manual transmission) and the trunk can hold many many MANY unicycles.

Sat around for a few hours trying to hash out a price in three different languages. (Well, my parents and the salesman did) Sale was pending on some sort of insentive program, that I was approved for, so on Wednesday I was told to hit up the bank for about 20 grand in cold hard cash.

But assuming all goes according to plan, I should be picking up one of these things on Tuesday or Wednesday night.

P.S. Who wants to teach me how to drive a manual transmission?!?

My forever car…

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Yarrgh.

I had always dreamed that my first real car would be mine forever.  Or at least that I would end up running it into the ground.  I also had grand plans for the fact that I would OWN my first real car, rather than leasing it.

My parents leased, when I said I wanted to buy. The major problem in that being I still live with them in Markham, while my first (and third) jobs were in Mississauga, 100-120km round trip (the lease allowed about 50km round trip) and I’m currently paying 8 cents a km because I’m over my milage.

So now, at the eve of my final days of my four year lease, I’m looking at a car that only was allowed 80,000 km, but driven nearly 96,000 km.  I’ve finally found a job that is close to home (about 15-20km round trip) and not really seeing this car as my dream car anymore.

My current car is getting inspected by the Mazda company on March 11th.  We’re supposed to end the lease April 11th, but I believe we’re turning it in early, on March 16th when my dad goes to HK.  That will leave me probably 8-12 weeks to save on car insurance, (insurance on two cars is cheaper than three) and to find my forever car.

I want my forever car to be a hatchback, fits more unicycles that way.
I want my forever car to be smaller than the Mazda 3, which is already a pretty compact car.
I want my forever car to have a brighter colour. Dark blue never looked clean unless it was fresh out the car wash.
I want my forever car to be a standard transmission. I’m learning how to drive stick now.

I think I want my forever car to be a HondaFit.

Busy busy busy!

I think I’m starting to realize just how fast time passes us by.  A week used to take forever and now I don’t know where the week’s gone.  But then again I seem to have been busier this week than “normal” so let’s recap what’s happened so far.

Monday – Work, Drumming, BodyFlow (Next week, the 9th, is my last drum class)
Tuesday – Work, BodyCombat
Wednesday – Work, Passport photos, BodyFlow (I couldn’t make it to do the double Combat/Yoga class across the street while waiting for my photos, d’oh!)
Thursday (Today) – Work, Unicycle club.
Friday (Tomorrow) – Work, BodyAttack(?)
Saturday – BodyCombat(?)/BodyJam(?),Band meeting(?), Unicycle meeting
Sunday – BBP Class

This week is a bit of a crazy week, but it seems they’re all gearing up to be somewhat crazy!  When I have another moment I’ll post what next week should entail.

Another weekly review

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

These weekly reviews are getting more common as I’m finding less and less time to sit down and blog (but at the same time not really reducing the amount of time being sat in front of a computer.)

So Monday I went to work, everything’s fine in that regard.  Me and my new “room-mate” (co-worker) are working well together, and my former co-worker who’s now on afternoons isn’t doing too badly himself.  The week generally went quickly with only a few hicups along the way, like me finding out that while our largest folder can fit a 28 x 40 sheet of paper… it won’t let me put through an 11 x 34 sheet because it needs to go in the opposite direction.

Drumming was Monday as well, and we had the instructor bring in an actual drum-kit.  That was fun, even though it’s still a bit weird sitting behind a kit while other people are watching.  I do really love drumming but I fear it may take forever to actually learn anything.

Body flow was also Monday & I was happy for it as I really felt good about that class.

Tuesday after work I raced to the gym for the Body Combat class.  It was fun, the regular Tuesday instructor is back which is exciting and we’re mixing up routines now so it’s not always the same one.  While it’s nice to know what all the moves are, it’s also nice to challenge the body by changing it up once in a while.  The sauna was great afterwards :)

Thursday was Unicycle club and I was actually able to make it down which was GREAT.  A lot of people I haven’t seen in a long time, that I truly missed.  Weird and ackward was finding out some personal drama going on within one of the families.  And while I sort of picked up on something not being right, I really wasn’t expecting anything that I ended up hearing.  But I do hope they’re all doing alright and in the end will figure out what’s going on.

Overall, I’m trying out micro-blogging via twitter.  And I do really enjoy that Twitter is able to talk to my blog so the updates come here too.  But I disliked how it was taking over the front page of my blogs so I tried the daily updates.  I’ve seen the weekly update work, so I may give up the daily ones and just take a weekly tip on everything.  It might work well this way.  So check out my facebook status or my twitter webpage to see updates as they come, but for a weekly synopsis, check out my blog I suppose!

Drumming and Body Flow

Monday, January 26th, 2009

So I sort of left the house really late to get to the drumming class but I’m definitely enjoying it more.  We’re sort of getting into actually drumming rather than talking so much, and everyone has stopped talking as much as they were previously, although some stuff that I think is common sense is still being questioned over and over every class, but at least during each class they are only asked once rather than three times.

I’m still having a really hard time with the different beats that I found was because the beats aren’t being broken down for me really well.  This one that the instructor put up, I couldn’t figure out at all, until he said something that just made perfect sense and I could play it perfectly after he explained it.  I’m going to need to find a drum instructor that can do that for me all the time, because if it’s not broken down I don’t think I’ll ever get it.

I also find it strange that we were told about paradiddles in the first class, but mr. instructor has never actually taught it to us.  When he’s talking and I’m listening I’ll absent-mindedly start doing it on my knee or something, but it’s weird we weren’t taught what I’ve been told is an extremely basic drum warm up. *shrug*

Anyways, after class I was driving home, and nearly skipped out on the Body Flow class.  For some reason I just really wasn’t feeling it, and a part of me wasn’t even sure if I was going to make it to the class on time since we finished a bit later than we normally would have.  In the end, I ended up driving to the class and it was pretty nice.  It was the new release, so everyone was pretty ackward and not knowing what to do.

A few poses I could do well and there were more (I felt) that reminded me of yoga which made me more comfortable.  What sucked was the studio was FREEZING cold.  I need to find a hoodie that doesn’t have a big zipper thing, because the one I wear now is a big lightening bolt that digs into my chest if I’m doing back strenghening.

Anyways, that was pretty much it for my evening!

I feel better (i.e. not sick) now so I’m hoping to go back to hitting the gym at least 3 times a week! Possibly more!!
