INJURY!

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

I’ve never done this before so it’s totally new territory for me.

My neck hurts.  A lot.

Last Wednesday I went to get a massage where I complained the left side of my neck was kind of stiff.  Worked on it, and it felt pretty decent.

Problem started Thursday morning when I did some combination of a stretch and a yawn to wake up.  Stiff neck came back… and moreso.  Owwie.  Was kind of sore all day at work, couldn’t hold the phone to my shoulder like I normally do (which was probably what caused the bulk of the neck soreness to begin with) and finally broke down & bought some of those microwavable bean-bag heat pads.  (Got two of them, a skinny round-ish one for around the neck, and a square-ish one for more flat areas.)

I never tried it before, and it was kind of exciting to microwave a bean bag (I’m easily amused it seems) and worked quite well.  I used both alternating, the skinny one around my neck or the square one kind of on the shoulder while laying down.

Neck/shoulder rubs can help but I’m just not comfortable doing that with people who didn’t actually train in it.  I often can’t believe people trust me with their necks, shoulders & backs considering I’ve really not got much of a clue of what I’m doing.

The sore-ness made me skip out on Thursday night’s unicycle club practice too.  I need to go back, I miss those guys.

Anyways, it’s almost been a week, it’s mostly back to normal.

So for now I’ll leave it I guess.

Going to schedule another massage for next week anyways.  Two maybe.

I might be shitty at parallel parking but I can take pictures while driving!

Spedometer on my Honda Fit

I just really wanted to show off the insane gas mileage this car gets. My old car, Mark the Mazda3, was just about 400km (city driving) from full to empty. About 500km if straight highway driving. And Freddy the Honda Fit just passed the 400km mark mostly city driving, with probably 1/3 of a tank to go. I wanted to get a pic at 300km because that was exactly the halfway point, but it looks better at night. With me trying to drive while holding a dSLR mounted with a fisheye lens driving 35km/h. Heh.

5 days and counting!

Well, maybe not. But I’m nervous all the same. My Mazda3 was returned like mid-March the day after my dad flew out to spend three-ish months in Hong Kong/China, and immediately upon his return I realized just how much of a pain it is to not have my own car. And being the spoiled chinese girl that I am, I want my own car.

Tuesday night we hit up the Honda dealership (since there are no more 2009 Mazda3’s and the 2010 version looks like a big dumb emoticon, and no, I do not want to drive a big dumb emoticon) to test out the 2009 Honda Fit.

I liked it. The inside feels big and boxy while the outside doesn’t look like a toaster on wheels. The gas milage is insane for a non-hybrid car (even more so on the manual transmission) and the trunk can hold many many MANY unicycles.

Sat around for a few hours trying to hash out a price in three different languages. (Well, my parents and the salesman did) Sale was pending on some sort of insentive program, that I was approved for, so on Wednesday I was told to hit up the bank for about 20 grand in cold hard cash.

But assuming all goes according to plan, I should be picking up one of these things on Tuesday or Wednesday night.

P.S. Who wants to teach me how to drive a manual transmission?!?

My forever car…

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Yarrgh.

I had always dreamed that my first real car would be mine forever.  Or at least that I would end up running it into the ground.  I also had grand plans for the fact that I would OWN my first real car, rather than leasing it.

My parents leased, when I said I wanted to buy. The major problem in that being I still live with them in Markham, while my first (and third) jobs were in Mississauga, 100-120km round trip (the lease allowed about 50km round trip) and I’m currently paying 8 cents a km because I’m over my milage.

So now, at the eve of my final days of my four year lease, I’m looking at a car that only was allowed 80,000 km, but driven nearly 96,000 km.  I’ve finally found a job that is close to home (about 15-20km round trip) and not really seeing this car as my dream car anymore.

My current car is getting inspected by the Mazda company on March 11th.  We’re supposed to end the lease April 11th, but I believe we’re turning it in early, on March 16th when my dad goes to HK.  That will leave me probably 8-12 weeks to save on car insurance, (insurance on two cars is cheaper than three) and to find my forever car.

I want my forever car to be a hatchback, fits more unicycles that way.
I want my forever car to be smaller than the Mazda 3, which is already a pretty compact car.
I want my forever car to have a brighter colour. Dark blue never looked clean unless it was fresh out the car wash.
I want my forever car to be a standard transmission. I’m learning how to drive stick now.

I think I want my forever car to be a HondaFit.

Busy busy busy!

I think I’m starting to realize just how fast time passes us by.  A week used to take forever and now I don’t know where the week’s gone.  But then again I seem to have been busier this week than “normal” so let’s recap what’s happened so far.

Monday – Work, Drumming, BodyFlow (Next week, the 9th, is my last drum class)
Tuesday – Work, BodyCombat
Wednesday – Work, Passport photos, BodyFlow (I couldn’t make it to do the double Combat/Yoga class across the street while waiting for my photos, d’oh!)
Thursday (Today) – Work, Unicycle club.
Friday (Tomorrow) – Work, BodyAttack(?)
Saturday – BodyCombat(?)/BodyJam(?),Band meeting(?), Unicycle meeting
Sunday – BBP Class

This week is a bit of a crazy week, but it seems they’re all gearing up to be somewhat crazy!  When I have another moment I’ll post what next week should entail.
