Anyone who knows me, and really KNOWS ME knows me, knows that I am/was in love with a British boy/pop group called Take That. It started with Tarzan Dan on YTV’s “The Hitlist” weekly countdown show and ballooned from there.
Their first popular song in North America was Back for Good, there were 5 really hot blokes in the video in black and white dancing in the rain. And I was hooked. I was also 13 years old. So I was obviously their demographic target market. Sadly they announced their break up in February 13, 1996 (I found out in April 1996 when it was announced on the HitList) and I was devistated.
Tried to follow Gary Barlow on his solo career quest (He visited Toronto once, I never got to see/meet him)
Tried to follow Robbie Williams on his solo career quest (He visited Toronto a few times, I saw him at Much Music (Skipping school!) before his scheduled performance in Alberta for Much Music’s snowjob’99 festival, and I saw his debut Canadian concery May 1, 1999. (I swear I know all of these dates off by heart) I did not see him again when he visited later that year or the next year.
Take That announced they would be reuniting (without Rob) November 2005 (This date I had to look up) and I started downloading albums again. (Since I can’t buy them retail and haven’t been fussed to buy them on ebay) Still dreamingof the day to see them live in concert.
A few weeks ago I found out two things:
1. Take That were doing another European tour in support of a new album that is releasing today (“The Flood”)
2. Robbie Williams has re-joined Take That and has been recording with the rest of the lads, and will be on tour.
3. Tickets for the tour go on sale October 27, 2010 at 9am GBT
I immediately decided I will be flying to Europe and seeing this concert.
I then realized I would have to be awake at 04:00 EST in order to be online to buy tickets.
I finally thought to myself that I must be absoloutely bonkers.
October 27, 2010 my alarm goes off at 03:55am. Thinking to myself “WTF?!” I run out of bed (topless mind you, in a freezing cold house) and jump online to start looking up websites to buy tickets from. And on the TTAP webpage to check with other fans.
Every phone line in London seemingly crashed.
Every ticket agent’s website has crashed.
TT and RW twitter feeds announcing apologies and “Please keep trying” messages from Ticketmaster et.al
Started considering locations other than London Wembley Stadium in order to get tickets. I would fly anywhere at this point.
At one point I could only confirm I had one ticket to one concert, and waited too long buying it because I wanted to confirm at least two concerts in order to justify flying to another continent for a band.
Suddenly the website I was having the most luck with offered me tickets to 4 shows.
Couldn’t justify buying so many tickets. Dropped one. And made my purchase.
At 06:03am EST I received an email with the following information into my inbox:

I squee’d silently. Went back to bed. Tried to sleep.
Alarm went off telling me it was time to go to work.
I never told anyone until after I bought the tickets. I didn’t even tell my mom until her birthday (Nov 2nd) when she told me she was going to Hong Kong over Chinese New Year. She… surprisingly didn’t seem that bothered by it. Almost like it was expected, once I told her it was for Take That. Sweet.
