Purge purge purge! Part two?! 247
Okay so I kind of tricked you all. I didn’t want to make big huge long winded posts. It seems the more one person writes, the less people want to read. And I’m kind of a wordy person.
So yesterday’s post covered the starting point in my “purge” cycle. But this is a biggie. It deserved it’s own post.
I’m purging my BME collection. I used to be known as “The girl who bought everything” and I really couldn’t help it. Everything that was put out, was awesome. I loved the simple designs, and the funny/catchy slogans (probably from being such a wordy person) I loved the inside jokes and the puns. But I felt like I had too much, and saw an opportunity to “cash in” a little bit and sold off the majority of the purchased shirts to a good friend of mine a few years ago, it made me feel better knowing it was someone I knew that was going to take care of “my collection.”
Of the shirts that were left, basically stuff I thought it would be in bad taste to sell. Event shirts that reminded me of events I attended, Top contributor shirts that were basically thank you gifts and the very exclusive “saints set” from SPC (13 shirts in the set, and only 13 sets were ever printed… as far as I was lead to believe)
I always had two different projects in mind for these shirts after I realized I’d never wear them.
- T-shirt quilt. A lot of people do this and it seemed like a great way to display a huge collection of shirts without having to show them on the body. Also it would be soft and warm and snuggly for the winter time. Of which there is plenty being that I live in Canada.
- Throw pillows. Basically turning the shirts into pillowcases for the square throw pillows, then having them strewn about the house. This plan would have required me to have my own house to have all these throw pillows as well.
But with both those plans I lacked a much needed sewing machine, didn’t know anyone who had one I could borrow, and while I thought it’d be good… never did look into investing in one.
So I decided it was time to purge the whole thing. I told my friend San (www.sandorfalot.com) of this plan to list the t-shirts for $5.00 a piece… and she asked to have first crack. Considering she’s also a top contributor and attended as many of the same events as me that she could… I didn’t feel so bad about it. Also that she’s a good friend made it safe since she would also “Take care of my collection.”
Final count? 34 t-shirts and 4 hoodies, all BME and/or modification related that for years and years I just couldn’t part with. And this photo below will be my remaining memory. Really hastily taken photos to show San what I was going to sell to her. Eh. Too lazy to unpack the two garbage bags of shirts to do them again neater. This will do just fine.
Edit: D’oh. Sandorf can’t afford the shirts when we meet up in September so hopefully in October some time I’ll be able to unload this plethora of shirts. It will be more hoodie season by then which will make more sense! (What is a plethora anyways?)
