The fastest 60 minutes in a long long time. 247
Yesterday I finally went and bit the bullet. Not literally. But I’ve (once again) decided that I need to go to the gym more regularly. As in more often than my usual Tuesday Body Combat & Friday Body Attack classes.
And I know I need weight training in my regimen in order to speed up this whole lose weight, get fit thing I’ve been after for… years now. But because of how I am, I *have* to go immediately after work, because I won’t ever get there if I go home first. And Monday/Wednesday were always BodyPump which I was always afraid of.
So I finally did it, went in last night for the Body Pump class, which is cardio but also includes weight training. And while I was confused out of my gourd, there was one really nice lady who helped me get everything I needed, and the instructor checked up on me often (from the stage) to make sure I was doing the moves right.
I do believe it will become my regular Monday & Wednesday routine.
I’ll just need to fine-tune the weights that I’m using in the next week-ish, so I really get a good feel for this workout and it will (hopefully) start showing results. I might bug one of the instructors on advice for weights to aim for, or if there’s any particular formula for figuring stuff like that out. I’d like to avoid guess-work when possible.
But… geebus. I had muscles cramping that I pretty much forgot existed. The first leg routine was mostly squats, and… yeah. My quads? They exist, and were pretty much the consistency of jello, for pretty much the entire class after the warm up track. Visibly shaking in the mirrors, I have decided I need to not wear tight yoga pants during this class so I don’t freak myself out.
I also got a cramp at some point in my abs, but I wasn’t doing ab-work at the time… so I guess that means I’m at least working my abs… or maybe I wasn’t doing something properly.
The worst was doing triceps kickbacks. We did some kind of triceps thing with the bar & a bench & trying to not drop said bar onto my head. Then did the kickbacks. And my left arm especially, cramped SO BADLY that I couldn’t even finish the set on that side and had to jump into the stretch early. It was surprising because I always thought my triceps muscles were at least half decent, what with the push ups I (used to) do on a regular basis.
Anyways, Body Pump was not nearly as scary as I thought it would be, and I really liked the class (I would have liked being more in the middle of the room so I could have seen better without turning my head so much, will have to work on that for Wednesday)
Excited!
Tentative plan is now:
Monday – Body Pump
Tuesday – Body Combat
Wednesday – Body Pump
Thursday – Rest/Unicycling
Friday – Body Attack
Saturday/Sunday – ??? Me & Stefan walk pretty much everywhere in Toronto.
P.S. Since I have actual stuff to write about, I’m going to put my Myspace Funnies on hold until life becomes more boring.
