Introduction to online dating from someone who doesn’t even date.

Alright. How to explain my next mini-series…

I’ve always used the internet to meet people, because really, where else do you meet them anymore?? Friends of friends rarely works since I’m probably already friends with them. My two main social circles are either full people I’ve already attempted at dating, or I wouldn’t even consider (mostly the unicycle crowd, mostly because they’re already in families)

Oh, and I consider myself someone who doesn’t date. Because I’ve always thought a proper date involved this huge drawn-out evening of events, starting with cocktails, dinner, then a club, and loads of cab rides in between. So all the hanging out at friends houses, or going out to the bar or pub, watching movies, or playing video games… nothing really registered as “date” to me. But it seems to for everyone else! I digress.

So, the internet.

I’ve been on the blogging site iam.bmezine.com for FOREVER, and it’s one of my main social circles, so I’ve pretty much “tapped out” that… “market” I think I’ve been in relationships with one guy from there, and had varying levels of “flings” with a good handful more. Not that I’ll ever tell. Unless it was videotaped and photographed… but still, not like you’ll ever see the evidence… unless you have a paid membership.

I joined myspace.com literally to use them as a meat market. And while kind of frustrating at times… it worked pretty decently. Ended up with two really close friends out of it, a whole lot of bands to listen to, and a few other “fling” like encounters that I have no regrets over.

Some people tell me they were able to hook up over Facebook. To this day I have no clue how they did it.

I’ve tried PlentyofFish a few times… not so great results. It’s a bit of a sausage fest from what I could tell, the minute I’d log in, I’d end up with dozens of messages from people, all wanting to “hook up” and without having put any effort into their messages. I think after all that I got to know one dude half-decently, met him once (at his band’s first show) and we chat online.

Which brings me to okCupid. Which… isn’t half bad. For a free site it’s definitely pretty awesome. And out of everywhere the easiest for me to use so far. So I’m going to end up writing my next series on the boys I meet from there.

Happy reading :)
