I don’t work for Canada Post. And I don’t live in China.

I certainly don’t do both at the same time.

This happened a few weeks ago but I’m writing about it now.  Idiot customer who just enjoys yelling at me, and hates the fact that I push back when provoked.

Yes I work in customer service, and yes I know it’s my job to make the customer happy… that doesn’t mean I should just sit there while they actually yell at me over the phone because of something that I quite literally do not have any control over. (Like a different company’s shipping rates)

So… here’s what happened.

Cust: I just got your bill and your shipping costs are outrageous! I want a refund so I can organize my own shipping!
Me: We display the shipping cost before you place your order. Next time please select customer pick up if you think our shipping rates are too high.
Cust: But it’s outrageous!
Me: I can put a note in to get this refunded, but for the future please select customer pick up, this is a complicated process and it would be easier if you could select the correct shipping method when placing your order.
Cust: What, do you work at Canada Post? You should care that I’m outraged!
Me: No sir, I work at (company) and unfortunately  I don’t have control over FedEx’s shipping rates, I will let my boss know but this is really out of my hands.
Cust: What, do you live in China? You should care when a customer is outraged!
Me: No, I live in Canada, and I will put in the note for your refund, and let my boss know you are not happy with the shipping rates.

Then calls back to leave a voicemail for my coworker who’s VM box is full, so he leaves a general VM going on about how unhelpful I am, and how all he wanted was to organize his own shipping but I wasn’t letting him.

A few days later over a different job…

Same cust: I just got your bill and your shipping costs are outrageous! I want a refund so I can organize my own shipping! And I don t’want you talking back to me!
Me: You know we display the shipping costs when you place your order, why do you keep selecting shipping if you know you’ll be outraged by the shipping price??
Cust: The costs are too high for shipping!
Me: Yes, I realize you think that.  Stop selecting shipping if you dont’ want to pay the shipping fees.
Cust:…
Me: Are you the one placing this order?
Cust: My company, yes.
Me: No, are YOU the one physically in front of your computer?
Cust: No, that’s one of my employees.
Me: Tell your employees to select Customer Pick Up from now on.  They are seeing and approving the shipping price when they enter the order. You keep calling to yell at me when your staff think the shipping charges are okay because they are approving the charges.
Cust: … I’ll go talk to my staff, but reverse this fee! *click*

I had quite a headache dealing with this guy both times.

I know he doesn’t like me so he tries to avoid me as much as possible. :)
