Product Review: Punkmedics Vegan Conditioning Shampoo

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

My fourth installment in the product review for PunkMedics lands me taking a look at the Vegan Conditioning Shampoo.  Now this is one item that I was really excited about, seeing as I generally purchase anything and everything, and never really am happy with my purchase once it’s said and done.

My biggest concern with this would be the all-natural label and the lack of an artificial scent.  Since a lot of the time I truly purchase shampoo based on how it smells, and what I’m craving at the time.  (Fake orange is generally a plus in my mind, somehow the false sense of citrus makes me feel cleaner.)

So, for about two weeks (this was a pretty long test due to my infrequency of use) I shampooed like normal with the Vegan Conditioning Shampoo, once, maybe twice a week.  Sometimes I paired it with the Vegan Leave in Conditioner, sometimes I didn’t. What weirded me out was that this didn’t bubble/foam like off-the-shelf shampoo’s, but if I remember the various spam e-mails I receive, the excessive bubbling in off-the-shelf shampoo’s is from some chemical that “has been linked” to causing cancer.  Once I realized that, I was okay with less bubble on my head.

In an effort to really get a review out of the Vegan Conditioning Shampoo (before my sample ran out anyways) I threw caution to the wind and went to shampoo my head every day.  (Generally not recommended by my friends because shampooing is bad according to… them!)  But my hair was fine.  Obviously no build-up of natural oils that you would get from not shampooing, but my hair didn’t seem damaged or lacking in any way.

A win!  I do prefer to pair this up with the Vegan Leave in Conditioner, if anything, so I can have tangle-free hair when I wake up in the morning (since I have a bad habit of going to bed with wet hair.)  I just feel very left out since I bought about 8 bottles of stuff from the store (it was a super duper sale) which means when I’m out… it’ll be a while before I get any more!

Product Review: Punkmedics Vegan Moisturizing Lotion

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Alright, it’s been a while since my last product review, but I’ve decided to review on the Punkmedics Vegan Moisturizing Lotion next.

Now, because I was curious, I went and read the ingreidents listed on the label.  And I understood 100% of where these ingreidents were derived from.  Awesome!

Initial impression:  Again, the lack of artifical scent threw me off, but this stuff still smells pretty good.  I’m just not overpowered by fake almonds or fake flowers, or… I don’t even know what other fake smells there are.

After using every day: I ended up taking my sample bottle to work since that’s where I do the majority of my moisturizing, after washing my hands at work.  I don’t know what’s in the water, but my hands feel both gross, and very dry afterward.  The Vegan Moisturizing Lotion totally takes care of it, without a greasy feeling (like the lotion left in the bathroom) and is quickly absorbed so I can get right back to work (typing at a desk) without getting my keyboard all gunky!  And yes, this is a lotion that passes the “snap-your-fingers-after-applying” test.  I’ve tried it.

Delightful discovery:  Not only does the Vegan Moisturizing Lotion have no overpowering artificial scent, it also does not have any overpowering chemical taste as many other lotions on the market do.  Not that I normally go around drinking this stuff, but I have a bad habit of sort of chewing on my knuckles while at work out of boredom or when trying to think of something.  And the average lotion would stop my train of thought with the new thoughts of “EWW GROSS!”  With the Vegan Moisturizing Lotion I can happily chew away at myself without any immediate repercussions due to taste.  (Although… I will admit my hand looks a bit mangled by the end of the day!)

Final verdict: Win! I will be purchasing much more of this product in the the very near future, as I just have a habit of using it a lot.
