Drumming and Body Flow

Monday, January 26th, 2009

So I sort of left the house really late to get to the drumming class but I’m definitely enjoying it more.  We’re sort of getting into actually drumming rather than talking so much, and everyone has stopped talking as much as they were previously, although some stuff that I think is common sense is still being questioned over and over every class, but at least during each class they are only asked once rather than three times.

I’m still having a really hard time with the different beats that I found was because the beats aren’t being broken down for me really well.  This one that the instructor put up, I couldn’t figure out at all, until he said something that just made perfect sense and I could play it perfectly after he explained it.  I’m going to need to find a drum instructor that can do that for me all the time, because if it’s not broken down I don’t think I’ll ever get it.

I also find it strange that we were told about paradiddles in the first class, but mr. instructor has never actually taught it to us.  When he’s talking and I’m listening I’ll absent-mindedly start doing it on my knee or something, but it’s weird we weren’t taught what I’ve been told is an extremely basic drum warm up. *shrug*

Anyways, after class I was driving home, and nearly skipped out on the Body Flow class.  For some reason I just really wasn’t feeling it, and a part of me wasn’t even sure if I was going to make it to the class on time since we finished a bit later than we normally would have.  In the end, I ended up driving to the class and it was pretty nice.  It was the new release, so everyone was pretty ackward and not knowing what to do.

A few poses I could do well and there were more (I felt) that reminded me of yoga which made me more comfortable.  What sucked was the studio was FREEZING cold.  I need to find a hoodie that doesn’t have a big zipper thing, because the one I wear now is a big lightening bolt that digs into my chest if I’m doing back strenghening.

Anyways, that was pretty much it for my evening!

I feel better (i.e. not sick) now so I’m hoping to go back to hitting the gym at least 3 times a week! Possibly more!!

An e-mail I received at work…

Monday, January 26th, 2009

This e-mail was too funny to not post everywhere I possibly could.  Received it at work last week and I’m not sure why my work e-mail (that’s only 3 months old) is on this guy’s mass e-mailing list, but it was, and here I share.  I’ve obviously blurred all names and company names that were included, because I don’t want to be staring down the business end of a libel lawsuit or anything for this repost.

But yes, this is exactly how my e-mail arrived, colours, and highlighting and text sizing and all!  Some people have too much time on my hands, and this guy obviously is one of them.  I went to his web-page based off his e-mail address, and the English on the website is MUCH better than what is in this e-mail, so obviously he had an awesome copy-writer write up his online portfolio/resume!!

Without further ado:

There’s another week.

Arrgh.  This sick isn’t going away quite yet and it’s driving me bonkers.  I personally feel generally okay, other than overall stuffyness.  But I sound (and may as well look) gross and I’m sure not many want to really be near me.  Even worse is I’m quite certain I’ve given this to both my coworkers, one of whom has been gone since Wednesday and I’m sure he’s happy to be away from all the germs.

And since I’ve now found out that we don’t get paid for sick days… well, we can get one day’s pay for every 3 days we’re sick? I won’t be calling in too many times in a year.

Tomorrow is the weekend at least.

Bah.  I’ve also been asked by my supervisor to start coming in on time more often than the 20 minutes late I’ve been doing since the new years, since the general manager has gone and asked him to ask me.  Boo-urns to that.

To anyone keeping track, I haven’t gone to the gym at all since Monday’s Body Flow class.  Maybe I’ll go Saturday, not sure. I have to get everything packed up for the BROOMFILLER show in Hamilton tonight. Oh, and to add one more thing, I’ve taken it upon myself to just do a load of push-ups at home every day, generally while watching TV. I’m averaging around 20-25 modified (from my knees) pushups in one go. My goal is to hit about 30 of them next time around. Seeing if this will supplement my being sick all week deal so at least I can gain some strength somewhere.

Update: ARRGH! Just got a call from Richard. Telling me to not bother leaving the house. OMG. Promoter just called him. 2 inches of water inside the club. WTF. Haha. Some water pipe broke and they just realized. No power (well, power, but not a good idea to be plugging in all the electrical when there’s that much water laying about) so no show. And I was supposed to crash at Chris’s tonight and give him back his fisheye & prime lens too.

Update 2: I get to keep the lenses a little bit longer! (Not feeling good enough to drive to Burlington anyways, sorry Chris & Sandorf!) I’ll grab pics of BROOMFILLER at their next show, on the 30th at Rok Boutique, see if I can see ItsJustSmith at the same time… somewhere else in the city, and return the lenses some time that weekend instead. See how THAT will all go down!

Indie Love Radio

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Screw it.  I’m too sick to work out (Really I was too sick to work but I went in anyways) but instead, I was able to score the address to Indie Love Radio so I could hang out with Rob during his show, Hijack Radio.  Was way fun.  Richard & someone else from BROOMFILLER didn’t show up unfortunately (I wanted to show them the lenses I’ll be shooting his Friday Hamilton show with) but I got to meet two of the guys from S.O.P.E. (Stuck on Planet Earth) & listen in and throw in weirdoid comments every so often.  And take a load of pics.

Check it out.

Body Flow again… but you know what? I think I’m sick.

This quite sucks.  I noticed last night, and it wasn’t getting much better.

Seems I’ve caught whatever cold/flu virus that my mom’s had all last week (and she got to stay home from work all week too) where I won’t get to.  But whatever, there’s bigger problems in the office right now (my co-worker, Kim, her father is not well and we’re not sure of the outcome at this moment in time.)  But assuming this doesn’t get better, I think Body Flow is going to be the only class I’m taking.

It was good, this instructor seems to only want to do the current routine, as she was talking about the release classes and how she is going to be working based on the new one once it comes out.  So this will be a routine I can learn once and just move through while it goes on.  As opposed to the Body Combat classes that will change every week anyways.

Class was nice, I kept my hoodie on the entire class pretty much, and it wasn’t as ackward as I had thought it would be.  And having the sauna on full blast at the end of it to try & clear my sinuses was awesome.

I’ll see how I feel, but I’m seriously doubting I’ll get to any other classes.  Rest is also good for the body, right?
