ITSJUSTSMITH at the Blue Moon

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Never been to this place before, but everyone I told the location (Queen and Broadview) to, all thought the Opera House.  I realized why when I got there, Blue Moon is about 3 doors down (heh) from said Opera House.

Anyways, it was also UFC #94 Fight Night so they had that going on the screens & projectors at the front where the bar was, then the middle housed two pool tables, and the back was the dance floor, stage & lights.  They were really well set up in my opinion.  The lights were great, the sound was generally good (the last band happened to break something somehow, but got it fixed in short order)

Have pictures.  Will submit to this blog later.  Found it somewhat humourous there were so many photographers.  (Me & Alex, One hipster looking guy, and some other person) and no one else anywhere near the stage.

The “Toronto Semi-circle” type thing has to go.  As does everyone sitting at the bar/seats when there’s a band up.  Irritating!!

BROOMFILLER at the Rok Boutique

Venue is teeny tiny.  Was quite funny actually.  Four guys crammed onto a stage not much bigger than a coffee table, with the stage being directly next to the incoming door.  Bass player was well enough to avoid nearly smacking a girl in the face with his instrument at one point, but I think he grazed me.  Fisheye lens came in REALLY handy as otherwise I’d not have really been able to fit everything with my normal 50mm!

Will add photos here when I get to it!

Bwahahaha

Haha. Okay, so I signed up for a Twitter account. Not because I think everyone in the world needs a play-by-play on my life, but because I found out the word/verb “to Twitter” is “Tweeting” and I want to tell people I just Tweeted!

Which I must admit, is much better than Brandon's verb of “to Facebook” being “Facebookify.” (I just say I “FB'ed personally.)

New release for Body Combat

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

I went today, and the girl who normally teaches the Tuesday night class wasn’t there, which was kind of sad because she’s really cute! I digress.  Anyways, it was the new release so a new routine that everyone needed to learn, I didn’t go to the release class that was last  Tuesday so it was completely new for me.

I liked it.  It was easy to follow and I could time it well to the music.  The music was pretty cool as well.

I need to try harder in that class though.  I do sweat and I can feel it, but I realized that half-assed kicks and punches aren’t going to tone any muscles that I own.  What sucks is wearing shoes is not conductive to any sort of martial arts, and in a martial arts inspired class… I think we should be going at it bare-foot!  Makes twisting and turning a lot harder, also I keep worrying that my shoe will come flying off into the person to the side or behind me.

No cardio warm-up for me today though, I left work too late to actually get there to do one.  Stupid customers all calling at 5:00 wanting quotes, or 5:10 needing their quotes explained to them! ARRGH!

Although, I found out BodyJam (the dance-inspired class) has a sesson on Fridays at 5:45, and I’ll probably hit it up this Friday.  If I like (which judging from the times I’ve seen the tail ends, I would) I might make that my Friday night.

Which would leave me with: Monday Bodyflow, Tuesday BodyCombat, Wednesday at the gym, Thursday Unicycles, Friday BodyJam.

I’m a pretty busy gal!

Drumming and Body Flow

Monday, January 26th, 2009

So I sort of left the house really late to get to the drumming class but I’m definitely enjoying it more.  We’re sort of getting into actually drumming rather than talking so much, and everyone has stopped talking as much as they were previously, although some stuff that I think is common sense is still being questioned over and over every class, but at least during each class they are only asked once rather than three times.

I’m still having a really hard time with the different beats that I found was because the beats aren’t being broken down for me really well.  This one that the instructor put up, I couldn’t figure out at all, until he said something that just made perfect sense and I could play it perfectly after he explained it.  I’m going to need to find a drum instructor that can do that for me all the time, because if it’s not broken down I don’t think I’ll ever get it.

I also find it strange that we were told about paradiddles in the first class, but mr. instructor has never actually taught it to us.  When he’s talking and I’m listening I’ll absent-mindedly start doing it on my knee or something, but it’s weird we weren’t taught what I’ve been told is an extremely basic drum warm up. *shrug*

Anyways, after class I was driving home, and nearly skipped out on the Body Flow class.  For some reason I just really wasn’t feeling it, and a part of me wasn’t even sure if I was going to make it to the class on time since we finished a bit later than we normally would have.  In the end, I ended up driving to the class and it was pretty nice.  It was the new release, so everyone was pretty ackward and not knowing what to do.

A few poses I could do well and there were more (I felt) that reminded me of yoga which made me more comfortable.  What sucked was the studio was FREEZING cold.  I need to find a hoodie that doesn’t have a big zipper thing, because the one I wear now is a big lightening bolt that digs into my chest if I’m doing back strenghening.

Anyways, that was pretty much it for my evening!

I feel better (i.e. not sick) now so I’m hoping to go back to hitting the gym at least 3 times a week! Possibly more!!
