Everyone, meet Chicklett

I can’t say I’m a big fan of flickr.

I really can’t.

I mean I know it’s a great site and it’s generally great for showcasing photography.  But there’s some sort of really eliteist attitude that I can’t escape and I don’t particularly enjoy.

Maybe the groups I’m in are just a bunch of bastards but I’m not really fond of it.

There’s a ton of “rate my photos” groups out there.  Generally a “submit one, rate 3 or rate 5″ so that everyone in theory SHOULD get reviewed by at least three or five people that go after you.  All the while you rate everyone before you.  Keeps it fair.

I find it irritating that I don’t get reviewed as often as the other people, and sometimes I go out of my way to review pics I don’t need to review because I find them interesting.

But I also find EXTREMELY irritating the people that are almost downright insulting in their reviews.  I really see no reason to give a photo, no matter how horrid, a 1 out of 5.  I know the option is there but really, that’s just mean.  Also as mean is the words some people write.  I always leave comments but I want them to be constructive.  So I’ll state my opinion, but I’ll make clear it’s an opinion.

Others are like “Yea this isn’t any good” as if it were fact.  And it’s not fact.  It’s clearly not a fact since it’s an opinion, but since your camera is more expensive than mine, and you have a bigger, more sensitive, faster lens you must know more than I do.

They probably do, but its not a very nurturing enviornment if you do nothing but insult me!

BAH!

Ughs. I have Facebook.

I don't know how it works. I'm listed at lilfunky1@gmail.com as Angela Poon. And no I won't be spamming everyone I know like all the annoying jerks out there!

I <3 Craigslist.

I absoloutely adore craigslist.

Last week I was able to secure myself a corner computer desk for free, and a 6ft tall  white bookshelf that matches the 4ft tall ones I currently own.  I picked those up last Thursday and Friday.  The desk, the dude forgot to give a few pieces when I went to pick it up, and he didn’t want me driving all that way for pieces he forgot so on Wednesday he actually came up to my house and dropped them off.  (He works Wednesdays somewhat near by so it wasn’t TOO too bad)

On the Friday I picked up the bookshelf, and the girl’s husband even carried it down from whatever apartment they’re at, and even loaded it into my car for me.  All I had to do was haul it out of my car when I got home, and re-nail a bunch of stuff back together.

Sadly, I do not own a proper hammer, and was instead using a broken rubber mallet.  So I was getting little black bits of rubber all over me, whilst in a constant worry of the entire mallet head flying off the handle.

Oh, and I also sold off 3 of my 4 PS2 games I wanted to sell.  I sold the 3 I *REALLY* wanted to sell, which were the sports games I never played.  2 of them came with my console, 1 was just a silly purchase.  I picked up the cash and dropped the games off after getting the desk.

I also secured two other bookshelves but decided against it and asked if they could move onto the next person, and was glad when I realized there was no way it would have all fit in the car anyways.

I wish it were something better.

At work we’re doing a spring food drive to kick start the whole idea of having a social committee in a very anti-social enviornment.  After hearing that the warehouse workers are extremely competitive when it was suggested we should go on company outings (on our own time of course) and how they would “kick our asses” at any sport we played, I suggested we make a competition of the food drive.

Office vs. Warehouse

See who can collect the most food.  Just for fun the prizes for the top team is a pizza lunch whilst the second place team (otherwise to the rest of the world known as the LOSERS but we are trying to abstain from negative wording such as that) would receive morning coffee and donuts.

Anyways, I realized that not anyone is really going to care that much.  We’re raising food for a not very well known organization.  Sure it’s local to the company but everyone knows the Daily Bread Food Bank.  You say you’re raising food for them and they have entire kits and stuff to help you organize your drive.  Now I’m sort of stuck doing it all myself, and I’m ripping off everything from the Daily Bread site.

So I designed a poster today reminding people of the food drive, and what are some necessary items they are always looking for.  Then the reminder of the dates it is running, who we are supporting and the fact that there’s prizes for this mini-competition.

And our goal.  Of 200lbs of food.  Which I think now is not ever going to happen.  Really, I don’t.

We’re supposed to be in charge of finding and decorating the collection boxes as well.  Let’s see how far we get with that.

AND I’m supposed to be the company events photographer.  So I guess I’ll be taking pictures of all the goings ons.  I wonder if the office doesn’t win the pizza lunch, if I can grab pizza from the warehouse under the guise of the fact that I’m there taking pictures.

Oh, and I’ve also been on the page layout and design for the company newsletter as well as random other things.  I don’t know why, but sure.  I can surf the internet again at least.
