I have my job interview, and I have nothing to wear
Alright so Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (at around 1am so take your pick) I applied for a job off craigslist. It’s a job that I’d applied to before, that I remember applying to before, where I though “I’m absoloutly perfect for this job and not a lot of people can say that, why didn’t they call me?” Apparently my application got lost in the shuffle.
Let me explain. I went to school for Graphic Communications Management. I therefore should work in the print industry. Don’t be mislead by the term “Graphic” as I am *NOT* a graphic designer. The program’s favourite tagline is “This is not a graphic design course, if you want to learn graphic design, go elsewhere.” It’s all about the print industry, in it’s many consessions. Basically everything BUT the design itself. From selling, getting jobs to come in, pricing them, how to preflight files, printing them, binding/finishing them, how to run a business.
Anyways, I applied at 1 in the morning, and received a call 9 hours later asking me to come in. The guy said how the last time they advertised, they were absoloutly flooded with graphic designers wanting this position thinking it was a design job, and whoever they hired was sorely mistaken. Their most recent ad stated right at the top “This is not a graphic design job. Please do not apply if you are soley a graphic designer.”
I understood everything he said about the position and the duties, and got-dang I’d probably be totally happy working there as far as I can so far tell. Better yet, the company is pretty close to my house, so I’ll save a ton on gas and mileage on my car (since it’s leased and WAY over right now from my LAST job) and I’d plan on building up a bike over the summer to ride instead. AND It’s spitting distance from the gym I’m at currently, so hopefully that will get me going again. Perhaps in the morning before work.
I’ll update this entry with the results of my interview… once I’ve gone to the interview!
P.S. Last time I bought “Work” like clothes I seem to have been about 20lbs heavier. So nothing particularly fits but I obviously don’t have time to go shopping now, nor the money!
So the interview took about an hour in total. I arrived 5 minutes early and waited about 15 minutes in total. Only met with the owner, not the customer service person I was supposed to meet with, she was sick today. It’s totally a job I could do, but they want experience that I don’t have yet. Of course, can’t get a job without experience, can’t get experience without a job. Always the way. I was offered to go in on a trial week-by-week basis, probably very soon, and I’ll take it, to prove I can do it.
If not, it was still a very positive interview & all that jazz.
