Well, I won’t give away much if any of the plot of the movie since it only was theaterically released last night, and I’m sure all 3 of you have already seen it if it interests you. Anyways.
I have to admit I left the theatre disapointed last night. It was funny, it was very funny. I laughed my ass off during the funny parts of the movie, which there were many to laugh at. But the movie was missing something, something that would have made it a great movie.
My friend Brandon who I took to the movie with me, mentioned how Kevin Smith movies are based on dialogue, and not plot, but still the previous movies I’d seen all had a decent plot to them. Except Jersey Girl, I never saw that one, but there wasn’t Jay or Silent Bob so I felt there wasn’t a point. Yes the dialogue was funny, extremely funny at times but even the dialogue was missing something.
The argument was made that Jay and Silent Bob aren’t integeral characters to the plot, which they weren’t, and it was made obviously and painfully so. But I think there wasn’t enough of them, while they weren’t the main characters, they’re definately important characters. There wasn’t enough drug dealing outside of the store, or star wars references, or anyone playing hockey. You think there would have been food stealing, or food fights or at least more dick humour then there really was.
*sigh*
I still loved the movie, I’d still go see it again, and I’m definately going to end up buying the DVD when it comes out. (Unless I can find it on LaserDisc) And I totally reccomend everyone to go see it since it’s still an awesome movie. But something, just SOMETHING was missing.
What was really awesome, however, is that my friends Rachel Larratt and Shannon Larratt had walk-on roles in the movie. Nothing cooler than my ability to say “Yea? Well I know Girl at Counter with Ear Guy, and Ear Guy!”
Maybe it’s just the fact that everyone in the movie is 10 years older now, which is… just kind of disturbing to look at. Or maybe it’s because I have a strong suspision that Kevin Smith was wearing a wig.
