Today's ride.
Monday, February 20th, 2006Was freezing. I got to our meeting place at exactly 12 noon. And found no one. I found one of the members cars but not them. So I waited by the icecream stand where I thought we'd meet at. And lay down on a picnic table, watching the clouds pass over me and thinking up random lines of words strung together, that might possibly be the best poem in the world that's never written down. Til about 12:30 when I went back to the car and found everyone gearing up.
Today was called a big-wheel ride. 29″ and up. And I had the smallest 29″ out there. Coupled with the fact that I ain't that strong of a rider, I was always last person to arrive at any meeting points. And it was *super* windy, and we were heading straight into it. And me being one of the wider type people I was having a difficult time riding into the wind. And when it turned into more of a cross-wind I was getting blown straight off the bike path onto the grass where I'd bail. But after half the group turned back I continued with Phil and Jeff, even though it was more of me playing catch-up the whole time. The funniest was when they went straight at this fork in the road, and I turned right since it looked like the nicer ride they would go for, and totally lost them, and was looked at like CRAZY when I was asking people “Hey, did you see two other unicyclists pass this way?”
In the end, I kept all my fingers (everyone was making jokes of me losing them because I was refusing to wear gloves) and my right shin was rudely introduced to my pedal as my face met the floor. But hot chocolate was awsome. Unicycle mom's are the best.
